Happy prog- meets jam band- Umphrey’s McGee roared out of Chicago with this gem from ’09. Lengthy compositions meet superb melodic construction on this well-executed album.

Crossover prog is a perfect niche for this record–it has it’s phish moments, Mr Bungle, even strains of bands like Moe and God Street Wine. It is most assuredly progressive though–and a fine example that progressive music does not have to be dreary, dark, intellectual, and drudgerous. It’s been well described as party prog, a title that fits.

For the late 2k’s, the record works, and should appeal to many prog lovers, and even those not far outside progressive circles.  +++- out of +++++
